How it All Began...

My son's name is Jasper so it's hard to find items with his name.  I
saw a hand stamped personalized necklace at a craft fair that I REALLY liked but it really wasn't in my price range so then I thought "I'm creative, I should try making it". I bought the supplies and made one necklace. A friend asked if I made them for other people and the thought hadn't even crossed my mind. After showing her my second necklace,  Brenda became my "official first order". A handful of necklaces later (thanks to her being my "walking advertisement") I decided to pursue it further.  I thought long and hard about a name for my new venture but nothing came to mind. Then I envisioned my friend wearing her necklace and someone asking where she got it and she'd reply "Mel Made It" for me ( as this is what most people call me). It's simple, to the point and something we can ALL remember.

A Family Affair...

This business truly has become a family venture. My son, Jasper, cuts most of the metal I use in my shop and even started a business selling to other artists like myself when he was 16.  My husband, John, does finishing work for me and packaging.  Whenever we have a BIG order we get a movie and sit down in front of the TV and make jewelry while spending time together as a family.  It has also been a great way for me to earn some money, while enjoying it.

Why Jewelry? Why Now?

I am only able to work a part time job since being diagnosed with MS (multiple sclerosis) in 1996. When our insurance changed and my medical bills went up quite drastically on a monthly basis, it was time for me to figure out how I could add income but not make my MS worse. JEWELRY was the answer. I can work when I FEEL good and take time off when I don't. Being my own boss is GREAT!

I really like making these little works of art. Each one is unique and personalized according to the things that are important in your life. I really hope you'll enjoy wearing the jewelry as much as I enjoyed making it!
